By Staff

Kochi, Mar 7 (UNI) Expresssing satisfaction over her performance at the first South Asian Athletics Championship here, Ace long jumper Anju Bobby George today said she was happy to win a gold medal in her home state after a gap of seven years.

''As it is early season for me, my jump of 6.50m is good though there are also some certain technical flaws in the jump,'' she said.

''I was jumping from behind the board and corrections will be made as the season progresses,''the athlete said.

Asked about the preparations for Beijing Olympics, Anju said lot of international competitions were coming up. First she would train in Bangalore before participating in three Asian Grand Prix and six European championships.

About the facilities for the South Asian Championships, she said ''the organisers have done a good job. The government should have done more for the meet.'' Anju added, ''the fellow long jumpers including Mayyokha Johny did not live up to the expectation. I expected better performance from them.'' UNI MA AJ PY AS2240
