Team India returns home to thunderous welcome

By Staff

New Delhi, Mar 6 (UNI) The Indian cricket team, which returned from a successful tour of Australia, received a tumultuous welcome on its arrival at the domestic airport here today.

Hundreds of fans waited outside the airport to have a glimpse of their heroes who returned after defeating Ausralia in the best-of-three Commonwealth Bank Series finals.

However, many of them were left disappointed after they were unable to get a glimpse of the players. They were shocked when Team India, who reached here from Mumbai in afternoon, slipped out through a different exit at the airport and was taken straight to a a hotel.

Later, officials declined to make any comment on the matter.

According to sources, Delhi Police and Central Industrial Security Force (CISF) personnel have been deployed for the security of the players.

Earlier, after reaching Mumbai's Chhatrapati Shivaji Terminal in the morning, players were taken to the domestic airport straight away to fly for Delhi by chartered flight. However, all-rounder Irfan Pathan, fielding coach Robin Singh and Physio John Gloster did not accompany the team from Mumbai.

India ended their troubled tour of Australia on a high note when they beat the hosts to win their best-of-three finals series 2-0. Sri Lanka was the third team in the tri-series.
