PMGSY guidelines for Hill states amended
Shillong, Mar 6: The Ministry of Rural Development (MRD) has decided that habitations within a distance of 10 km from the International border in the Hill States will be treated as a cluster for the purpose of providing all-weather connectivity by 2009.
According to a PIB statement issued here yesterday MRD's decision came after the Hill states requested that connectivity should be provided to a large number of habitations in the hill and mountainous areas under the Pradhan Mantri Gram Sarak Yojana (PMGSY). Various hill states had been requesting the MRD to modify the existing guidelines to cater to the needs of scattered habitations. As per the present guideline habitations within a path distance of 1.5 km in hilly areas are clubbed together for the purpose of determining the population size for PMGSY.
