More than 90,000 crore funds for NRHM: Minister
New Delhi, Mar 5 (UNI) A sum of Rs 89,478 crore has been earmarked for the implementation of various programmes under the National Rural Health Mission (NRHM) out of the total allocation of more than one lakh crore for the Department of Health and Family Welfare during the 11th Five Year Plan.
Minister of State for Health and Family Welfare Panabaka Lakshmi, in a written reply in the Lok Sabha, today said the Department of AYUSH would provide an additional Rs 625 crore, which would take the total allocation for NRHM to Rs 90,103 crore.
She said under the Janani Suraksha Yojana (JSY), a cash benefit scheme to promote Institutional Delivery with special focus on Below Poverty Line (BPL) and SC/ST pregnant women, the government was taking several steps like appointment of ASHA, operationalising Community Health Centres as First Referral Units, augmenting the availability of skilled manpower by imparting training and Organising Village Health and Nutrition Day at Anganwadi Centres.
