Karnataka to launch E-Mahile scheme in villages
Bangalore, Mar 6: Karnataka Government today decided to launch 'E-Mahile' to equip women with the know how to utilise latest IT solutions.
Talking to newspersons here, Advisor to Karnataka Governor P K H Tharakan said a pilot project would be introduced in ten districts of North Karnataka from International Women's Day on March 8. Villages would be brought under wireless internet technology, he added.
At leas 300 unemployed women had been identified in villages and trained in computer and internet usage,'' he said, adding that they would be managing information kiosks in their village''.
Mr Tharakan said E-Mahile members could avail, information in variety of subjects ranging from cost and quality of nearest medical facility, testing of soil, latest prices in the nearest markets and advance booking for train and bus services.
The scheme would galvanise women into other spheres of economic activities, he added.
He said the Goverment had planned a week-long celebrations of Womens' Day with exhibitions, competitions and distribution of prizes.
