Controversies took away enjoyment from my farewell: Gilchrist

By Staff

Sydney, Mar 6 (UNI) Retired Australian wicketkeeper Adam Gilchrist today said the controversies that raged during the heated summer against India extracted much enjoyment from his farewell to the game.

''I think both teams were very, very relieved that the series finished,'' Gilchrist told BBC.

''It was tough work. It wasn't the most enjoyable summer we've been involved with - all the issues on and off the field.'' ''There was politics played out by the administrators, there were players that were put in a difficult situation and I don't think anyone will want to go back down the path we've been on this summer.'' Gilchrist will now turn his attention to having some fun in the upcoming Indian Premier League tournament.

The wicketkeeper will play with Hyderabad after being purchased for more than 700,000 dollars, but he's not spending the huge sum just yet.

''If that comes to fruition and everyone gets paid these dollars that's wonderful,'' he said.

''That's a real bonus at the end of your career to get that sort off money. I'm not going to be naive about that - that's great.'' ''But we'll see whether it all actually happens and also we'll see what actually happens with the competition,'' he added.
