Jalgaon, Mar6: Thirteen NCP workers were injured, four of them seriously, after their vehicle overturned here on Wednesday.
The victims were returning by private vehicle to Karmala in Parola taluka of the district this evening after attending a farmers rally, when an autorickshaw came before it. The driver tried to swerve the vehicle when the incident happened, police said, adding, all the injured were admitted to civil hospital here.
The farmers rally was held to congratulate Union Agriculture Minister and NCP Chief Sharad Pawar, whose party is a constituent in UPA government at the Centre, for announcing a loan waiver of Rs 60,000 crore for farmers in the Budget.
State PWD Minister Chhagan Bhujbal, State Rural Development and Tourism Minister Vijaysinh Mohite-Patil, Union Minister Suryakanta Patil, NCP State President Arun Gujrathi addressed the rally, which was attended by about 50,000 farmers from Jalgaon, Dhule, Nandurbar and Nasik districts.
After hearing the news, Mr Gujrathi, Jalgaon Guardian Minister Vijaykumar Gavit, NCP District Chief Advocate Ravindra Patil, Jalgaon DSP Dilip Sawant and others rushed to the hospital to enquire about the wellbeing of the injured. Police have registered an offence in this regard.
