Two sentenced to life in a murder case

Rourkela, Mar 5 (UNI) Sundargarh Additional District and Sessions Judge Madhumita Das sentenced two persons to life imprisonment for murdering a woman.

The court yesterday convicted Fantus alias Budduram Behera and Alok Rout in a murder case and sentenced them to life and a fine of Rs 25,000 each.

The court ruled that the duo would have to undergo rigorous imprisonment for additional one year if they failed to pay the fine.

According to the prosecution, both Budduram Behera and Alok Rout had attempted to rob the house of one Pabitra Meher of Kuchabeda village under Hemagiri police station on January 13, 2006.

Pabitra's wife Meera woke up and caught hold of Budduram and shouted for help. On hearing her cries villagers gathered on the spot and blocked the passage.

Finding no way to escape Alok attacked Meera with a sharp weapon and killed her on the spot.

Later the villagers caught Alok and handed him over to the police. The other accused was also later nabbed by the police.
