Puducherry, Mar 5 (UNI) Pandemonium prevailed in the 15th council meeting of the Puducherry Municipality as councillors of Puducherry Munnetra Congress(PMC) and DMK came to near clash over the move to sell a land owned by the municipality at a low price.

As soon as the meeting commenced, Independent councillors Manjini and Kandasamy, holding a placard written "looting government land?" went to the podium of chairperson Dr Sreedevi and argued with her over the move to sell the 1093 sq ft of land on the 100 feet road for Rs 1,80,000 to a private party. Both of them staged a walk out after not getting a proper reply from Dr Sreedevi.

The five PMC councillors then came to the chair and ghearoed Dr Sreedevi, asking her how the land presently valued at Rs 55 lakh be given to private parties for Rs 1.80 lakh. The DMK councillors, who came in support of Dr Sreedevi, said as majority of the councillors had supported the sale, it would be executed.

Following this, pandemonium prevailed in the House and the councillors were about to clash with each other. However, the ugly situation was averted as PMC councillors walked out of the House.

Later, speaking at the meeting, AIADMK councillor Bhaskaran said alleged that there was irregularities in the deal.

Dr Sreedevi warned that if the councillor speaks anything without evidence, severe action would be taken.

The AIADMK councillors staged a walk out protesting the sale deal and alleged corruption in it.

However, the meeting continued and when the resolutions were about to be adopted, the councillors, who walked out again resumed their seats and demanded that the resolutions be passed only after a debate on it.
