Chennai, Mar 5: Nippon Paint, a leading name in paint industry, today launched 'first ever' odourless premium paint. Talking to reporters at the launch function, Nippon Paint India Vice-President Decoratives Ramakanth Akula said this was the first premium interior emulsion paint in the country that has no paint odour with near zero Volatile Organic Compounds (VOC), which is one of the major source of indoor air pollution.
The advantage of this new product was that users could occupy the room within one of hour of painting and it was a health-friendly and eco-friendly paint-- ideal for people sensitive or allergic to paint and paint odour.
Replying to questions, he said Nippon, which hitherto had been importing its products for Indian market, would set up its own paint manufacturing facility at Sriperumbudur nearhere with a total investment of Rs 80 crore.
The plant, having an initial capacity to produce 20,000 tonne, would be ready by this October. The plant will have the capacity to scale up the production by another 10,000 tonne.
Mr Akula said the company was planning to double its exclusive outlets from 90 to 180 this year and increase its multi-brand outlets from 60 to 100 this year.
Largely present in south India, the company was also looking at foraying into the western market, especially Gujarat next month.
