Federation demands upgradation of KAP Viswanathan hospital
Tiruchirapalli, Mar 05 (UNI) The city-based Federation of Service Organisations, comprising various residents' welfare and consumer organisations today urged the Tamil Nadu Government to upgrade the KAP Viswanatham Government Medical College Hospital here into a super-speciality hospital.
In a statement, Federation convener M Sekaran said "We are hoping for an announcement to this effect from the government in the state budget." He said the Federation had decided to more the court seeking removal of encroachments on water bodies in the city and expeditious implementation of the long-pending flood prevention scheme.
Though Chief Minister M Karunanidhi had announced that the flood prevention scheme would be implemented at an estimated cost of Rs 207 crore last year, the project was yet to be implemented, he pointed out.
He said the non-removal of encroachments from various sewerage channels by the City Corporation was one of the main causes for inundation of residential areas, he added.
