Farmers hold 'Rasta Roko' in Nashik

Nashik, Mar 5: As many as 200 farmers from Siddha Pimpri town in the district today held a ''Rasta Roko'' agitation to press for their demands at old Adgaon Naka on the Mumbai-Agra National Highway Number three.

The farmers were demanding removal of reservation of their land by the State Government for educational purpose. Nearly 180 hectares of land in the village has been reserved for educational purpose, according to a farmer. The agitation was led by former Zilla Parishad member Bhausaheb Dhikale. The farmers also submitted a memorandum of their demands to Tehsildar V N Shinde and other government officials. The officials assured the agitating farmers to look into the matter.

The agitation continued for 10-15 minutes causing a traffic jam.

Police detained the agitators, who were later released.
