Enough scope for foreign entry in Indian media: Govt
New Delhi, Mar 5 (UNI) The Government, which is close to taking a final view on allowing foreign news agencies independent operation in the country, today said there were no factors preventing foreign media from entering India.
In a written reply in the Rajya Sabha, Minister for Information and Broadacsting Priyaranjan Dasmunsi said several Indian companies engaged in publishing newspapers and periodicals dealing with news and current affairs had been allowed to bring in Foreign Direct Investment (FDI) subject to the maximum limit of 26 per cent of their paid up equity capital.
A large number of Indian companies publishing scientific/technical and speciality magazines/periodicals/journals have been permitted to bring in FDI up to the maximum limit of 100 per cent of their paid up equity capital.
Besides, permission has been given for publication of 107 technical and speciality magazines and journals by Indian companies having FDI. In addition, permissions have been granted for publication of 172 magazines and journals as Indian editions of various foreign ones, said Mr Dasmunsi.
