Arthur prefers exposure over ranking

By Staff

Chittagong, Bangladesh, Mar 5 (UNI) South Africa coach Mickey Arthur today said giving international exposure to his young players is more important than achieving top spot in the ICC rankings.

''It is nice to be tied number one and even nicer to be the top ranked side,'' Arthur said.

''We should not just look at that. We have to give our youngsters an opportunity with the tour of England, Champions Trophy and the tour of Australia coming up this year.'' The Proteas share the top spot in the one-day rankings along with Australia after the world champions lost the CB Series final to India in Brisbane yesterday.

They will continue to be the top ranked team if they sweep the upcoming one-day series against Bangladesh.

Australia dropped three points with their loss in the tri-series to tie with South Africa on 127 points.

The three-match one-day-international series begins in Chittagong on Sunday.
