Bangalore, Mar 4 (UNI) Global leading Internet Company Yahoo Incorporation today announced the expansion of its Research and Development operations by launching a lab, first-of-its kind in India here.
Briefing newsmen Senior Vice-President and Head of Yahoo Research Prabhakar Raghavan said the lab would be a 'centre of excellence' for next generation search and advertising technologies focusing on making the Web more relevant and simple for users and advertisers.
Eminent scientist Dr Rajeev Rastogi would head the new lab, he informed.
Replying to queries, he said Dr Rastogi would ensure assembly of world class team of scientists and engineers to focus on new approaches to information extraction and machine learning, multimedia and query processing.
The lab intends to focus on delivering the most valuable insights and leading edge technologies to delight all customers worldwide, he added.
As part of Yahoo's thought leadership efforts, Dr Rastogi would be instrumental in continuing the success of Yahoo! Big Thinkers, India, a series of quarterly public lectures on science, technology and the internet. This series, kicking off tomorrow, would feature international subject matter experts from within Yahoo wherein speakers would bring with them their expertise and a global perspective of the constantly changing world of technology, online products and communities and the internet industry, he added.
He said the company was planning to recruit 100 people during this year for its R and D and Lab facilities.
