Williams sisters notch first win on Indian soil

{image-williams sisters_04032008.jpg www.oneindia.com}Bangalore, Mar 4: Williams Sisters-Serena and Venus-registered their first win on Indian soil defeating Romanian and Thai pair of Andreea Ehritt and Tamarine Tanasugarn 7-6, 6-4 to enter the doubles quarter finals of the US 600,000 dollars WTA Tier II Bangalore Open here today.

Venus and Serena took just 94 minutes to send home packing their rivals, who played better in the first set forcing tie break.
In the first set, taking time to settle down, their rivals conceded three points (0-3) but Serena had a quick break and taking advantage of a double fault opened the account (1-3) and went ahead not only to equalise but also to take a one point lead (4-3).

However, the Thai and Romanian duo succeeded in equalising (4-4).But Serena's superb aces combined with Venus's backhand shots, shattered the hopes of their opponents. The sisters led 6-5.

The Thai/Rou pair were not ready to give up and took the set to tie break (6-6) taking advantage of Serena's few failures in the returns. In the tie breaker they succeeded in taking first two points, but the lead was shortlived as Venus while serving took two point lead after equalising (4-2).

When the score was at 5-5 in the tie breaker, Venus regained her power and with her sister's help stopped the opponents and won the first set (7-6(5) In the second set, the Williams sisters, who were well settled, did not take much time to finish.

They took just 34 minutes to win the second set. Serena served four aces. Though they conceded first point (0-1), they were quick enough to equalise and Venus took full advantage of the opponent's weakness and took a two point lead (3-1).

However, Tamarine not only succeded in equalising the score (3-3) but also one point lead (4-3) as Venus committed a few unforced errors.

But Serena served two aces consecutively in the last set to show the doors to Thai/Rou pair.
