Chennai, Mar 4 (UNI) The Tamil Nadu Government today warned of stern action against Ration shop employees, who were lethargic and indifferent to the public.
Food Minister E V Velu, after a review meeting at the Secretariat, said all the ration shops would be brought under a scanner and stern action would be taken against lackadaisical staff.
To ensure that the ration shops functioned properly, catering to the needs of the card holders, Assistant Commissioners have been asked to review the functioning of the shops in the city on a monthly basis and file report.
He said the government has streamlined the distribution of new ration cards and officials have been asked to be kind to the general public, who approached them for fresh cards. All steps have been taken to ensure that new cards were distributed at the earliest.
The Minister, who reviewed the functioning of ration shops in the city, said the Public Distribution System (PDS) was functioning well and card holders were getting the items without any difficulty.
However, to ensure better service, the government has decided to set up control rooms to enable the card holders to register their complaints regarding improper functioning of ration shops in their areas.
The general public could contact the control rooms and register complaints with regard to denial of items, irregularities in quantity and delay in distribution of new cards, the Minister said.
