New Delhi, Mar 4 (UNI) The Centre today blamed non-availability of land and pending court cases for the delay in operationalising Kasturba Gandhi Balika Vidyalayas in several states.
In a written reply in the Lok Sabha, Union Minister of State for Human Resource Development M A A Fatmi said the government has so far sanctioned 2180 KGBVs in the country. But of these only 1724 (80 per cent) have been operationalised. ''One of the major reason for the delay is unavailability of land and court cases in some states,'' he added.
In Andhra Pradesh, 342 schools have been sanctioned but only 223 are operational. Similarly in Bihar, 208 out of 350 Balika Vidyalayas are operational. Same is the case with Uttar Pradesh where 323 schools have been sanctioned, but only 205 are operational.
However, in Arunachal Pradesh (25), Assam (15), Chhattisgarh (84), Haryana (9), Mizoram (1), Manipur (1), Meghalaya (1), Tripura (7), Orissa (114), Punjab (2), Rajasthan(186), Madhya Pradesh (185), Karnataka (61), Jharkhand (187) and Tamil Nadu(53) all the sanctioned schools have become operational.
