79 kg of contraband recovered in separate seizures; wrestler held

New Delhi, Mar 4 (UNI) The Customs Preventive Unit, Delhi Railway Police and Narcotics Branch today recovered a total of 79 kg of contraband in separate seizures from the National Capital and arrested seven people, including a national-level wrestler and a Singapore national.

The Customs Preventive Unit arrested a Singapore national, Irwin Bin Hassim, carrying seven kg of blackish substance purported to be hashish. The passenger, on way to Rotterdam on a KLM flight, had concealed the contraband in a cavity of his 'hard topped' suitcase.

He has been booked under various sections of the NDPS Act.

The Delhi Railway Police seized 27 kg of ganja from four rickshaw-pullers from the New Delhi railway station. They had bought the contraband from Mughal Sarai in East UP and were planning to sell it in Raghubir Nagar slums.

Working on a tip off, the Narcotics Branch of the Delhi Police arrested two people, including a wrestler, from Rohtak Road for carrying 45 kg of charas.

The Narcotics team laid a trap at Ghevra Mode on Rohtak Road and arrested Rajeev Grewal and Rajbir who were carrying the drugs, estimated at Rs 2.25 crore in the international market, in two plastic bags. Police claimed that they were part of an inter-state gang.

During interrogation, Rajbir told that he has participatd in national level wrestling competitions.
