New Delhi, Mar 4 (UNI) In line with its commitment to grant 33 per cent reservation to women, the Delhi BJP today started the initiative from its pradesh office by inducting 25 women in its fresh list of office-bearers.
While three women -- Poonam Azad (Vice-President), Meera Kanwaria (Gen Sect) and Shikha Rai (Sect) -- found place in the state party's top hierarchy, 17 other women (plus three of the above) were nominated to the party's Working Committee.
Besides this, five other women were selected as 'Special Invitees' to the state party unit.
Calling the move as revolutionary and visionary, BJP president Harsh Vardhan said with today's move the Delhi BJP has become the first in India to have given special status to women.
The move was an implementation of the decision of the central leadership of the party, he added.
The new list also named Sardar Harsharan Singh Balli as one of its Vice-Presidents.
