Youth Akali supporters clash in courts

Rupnagar, Mar 3 (UNI) Tension prevailed in District Judicial Courts Complex here after Youth Akali Dal leader Kiranbir Singh Kang and his supporters clashed with the supporters of his rival Akali leader Rajbir Singh Padiala in the courts complex.

According to information the incident took place when the proceedings in the case relating to the Mundi Kharar firing incident which took place on July 2, 2004 during the last SGPC elections was being heard in the court.

Kang, who is an accused in the case and his supporters, had come to the court in connection with the hearing of the case. The supports of Padiala, who is also an accused in the case also reached the courts with his supporters.

Kang and his supporters clashed with Rajbir's supporters, who were four in number. Kang and the policemen attached with him gave a severe beating to one of Rajbir's supporters identified as Karamjit Singh of village Bamnara while three other supporters Anokh Singh, Sajjan Singh and Sham Singh ran away.

They took Karamjit to the nearby SSP office and continued beating him on the way. Later on he was taken to the local police station.

Kang alleged that Rajbir's supporters hurled abuses on him and his supporters and one of them Anokh Singh, who was having a criminal background tried to take out his revolver to attack him.

Thereafter, he and his supporters caught hold of Karamjit while others fled from the scene.

On the other hand Rajbir refuted the allegation and said that his supporters had come to submit documents relating to the order of the lower court. He alleged that Kang, his supporters and the policemen attacked his supporters.

When contacted SSP Praveen Kumar Sinha said that police was registering a case in the matter on the complaint of Kang. He said that no complaint had been received from the other side.
