UP assembly lauds cricket teams

By Staff

Lucknow, Mar 3 (UNI) Praising the victorious senior and junior Indian cricket teams, Uttar Pradesh assembly today adopted a resolution congratulating the Team India for defeating Australia and under-19 players for winning the world cup at Kuala Lumpur.

State parliamentary affairs minister Lalji Verma moved the resolution after the matter was raised by Congress legislature party leader Pramod Tiwari and supported by leader of the opposition Mulayam Singh Yadav.

Mr Tiwari said it was a matter of great honour for the country when these boys won the under-19 World Cup.

He made special reference to the Lucknow lad Tanmay Srivastava, the highest scorer for the side in the finals against South Africa.

Mr Yadav in his statement said such achievement should be lauded by the assembly to encourage the boys who had brought laurels to the country.

Last night, India under-19 team had won the World Cup for the second time defeating South Africa by 12 runs while Indian seniors got better of Australia in first of three one day finals.
