Jamshedpur, Mar 3 (UNI) Tata Football Academy (TFA)annexed JRD Tata Youth Cup (Under-19) outplaying JCT Phagwara 4-1 in the final at the JRD Tata Sports Complex here today.
JCT began with a promising note after scoring in the 11th minute through mid-fielder Samarpreet Singh, who scored from the top of the box after dribbling past a number of defender(1-0).
But that was the last time the Punjab team managed to make a positive move and the local outfit after a brief lull came back strongly to restore parity in the 39th minute when TFA's dynamic striker Bineesh T B, after missing an easy chance, scored from a good move from the midfield (1-1).
After three minutes captain Lal Ram Lua scored the second goal for his team converting a corner-kick from a goal-mouth meelee. TFA, who was leading 2-1 during the breather, continued its attacking mode of play in a hot condition as the Punjab team was coping to adjust with the situation.
Taking the advantage defender Sushil Kisku, who defended his team like rock and shouldered most of the burden, gave 3-1 lead to his team in the 58th minute. Bineeh, who was adjudged best scorer of the tournament with four goals, sealed the fate of the Punjab team in the 80th minute through a powerful right footer after receiving pass from Robin Singh (4-1).
TFA's defender Raju Gaekwad, who received the man of the tournament award, received caution at the fag end of the match.
Sesa, Goa was given the best disciplined team of the tournament, organised on the occasion of Tata Steel's centenary celebrations.
