New Delhi, Mar 3 (UNI) The Supreme Court will hear tomorrow the petition filed by UTV, producers of Hindi movie 'Jodhaa Akbar,' challenging the ban imposed on the screening of the movie in Uttar Pradesh, Haryana and Rajasthan.
A bench comprising Chief Justice K G Balakrishnan and Justice R V Raveendran fixed the matter for hearing tomorrow when the petition was mentioned for urgent hearing today before the court. It contended that the producers and distributors of the movie are suffering from losses due to such bans.
The petitioners also contended that the ban is totally illegal and violation of the fundamental rights under Article 19 (1)(a) of the Constitution.
The Madhya Pradesh High Court had lifted the ban while Punjab and Haryana High Court directed the governments to provide adequate protection to the theatres screening the movie.
The petitioners have also contended that the movie had been cleared by the Censor Board and there is no justification for opposing the movie.
