SC questions Modi govt over appointment of Pande as Guj DGP
New Delhi, Mar 3 (UNI) The Supreme court today granted four weeks to the Narendra Modi government to respond to a petition challenging the appointment of Mr P C Pande as Gujarat Director General of Police.
A bench comprising Justices H K Sema and Markendey Katju adjourned the hearing of the petition seeking directions to the state government to remove Mr Pande from the post as with him being there a free and fair investigation and trial in cases related to 2002 Gujarat communal riots were not possible.
During the recent assembly elections in the state, Mr Pande had to be removed from the post on the orders of the Election Commission but he was reinstated by the Narendra Modi government after the conclusion of the polls.
