Protest against new collectorate location
Ariyalur, Mar 3 (UNI) Most of the business concerns remained closed in Ariyalur town today and its surroundings protesting against the District Administration's proposal to construct a new collectorate for the newly formed Ariyalur district at a far away place.
An all party procession, led by Ariyalur Congress MLA Palai Amaramoorthy, went through the important through fares of the town, protesting against the decision.
They also submitted a memorandum to the collector to locate a new site for the new collectorate within a short distance from the town.
Mr Amaramoorthy later told newspersons that though several places were available very near to the town, the District Administration had chosen a site at Poyyur, 17 km away. This was totally unwarranted. Reaching the new location would be difficult for both the public and the staff of the collectorate.
He said a delegation of MLAs of Ariyalur district would meet Chief Minister M Karunanidhi in this connection shortly.
