Kuala Lumpur, Mar 3 : The Indian government has announced a scholarship programme for the children of persons of Indian origin (PIOs) and non-resident Indians (NRIs) for undergraduate, professional and general courses in India for the academic year 2008-2009.

The scholarship is 75 per cent of the institutional economic cost, including tuition and hostel fees and other charges, or 3600 US dollars, whichever is lesser, The New Straits Times Online reported.

To claim the scholarship, the students will have to clear an entrance test to be held at the Indian High Commission at Kuala Lumpur on May 18.

The scholarships do not apply for medicine and medical-related courses, said the report.
