Meghalaya witnessed over 75 per cent polling
New Delhi, Mar 3 (UNI) The election for the 59 out of 60-member Meghalaya Legislative Assembly seats which took place today, witnessed over 75 per cent voting, announced the Deputy Election Commissioner(DEC) R Bhattacharya.
Briefing newsmen here Mr Bhattacharya said the election for the Bagmari Assembly constituency was countermanded following the death of a candidate. The election will take place for this constituency on March 22.
When the last report came people were standing in queue at several polling stations to cast their votes.
He said like the Tripura polls here also 100 per cent photo electoral rolls were been used and the voters mainly used their Electoral Photo Identity Cards (EPIC) to use their franchise.
Mr Bhattacharya said the total number of electorate in the state was 12,30,152 including 6,25,534 female electorate.
In order to have easy access of casting votes as many as 1582 polling stations had been set up in the state. Out of these 635 polling stations had been marked as hyper-sensitive and 194 as sensitive.
