Govt committed to welfare of Backward Class: Minister
Hyderabad, Mar 3 (UNI) Andhra Pradesh Minister for Backward Classes Mukesh Goud today said the state government was committed to the welfare of backward classes in the state.
Making a statement in the Legislative Council on an issue raised by G Thippe Swamy (Cong) under Rule 311, he said the total budget allocation for four years --2004-2008 --was Rs 1619.86 crore as against Rs 1807.53 crore allocated by the TDP Government for nine years.
He said the government had allocated Rs 896.97 crore during the financial year 2008-09.
He said 2.72 lakh backward class people were provided pension, amounting to Rs 307 crore.
The government had provided 16 lakh houses during the first phase of the Indiramma housing scheme, of which 8.10 lakh houses were given to the backward classes.
