Manipur: AR jawan declared absconding
Imphal, Mar 3: An Assam Rifles jawan, charged with flouting rules and regulations under different sections of the Army Act, has been declared absconding. G D Haider Ali of 19 AR, absconding since February 22, had earlier approached the media alleging harassment by AR authorities.
''The jawan was provided all the opportunities and facilities that are due to a serving soldier and all his reasonable requests were granted. He was always treated with dignity. Notwithstanding the above, he exploited the provisions in our legal system by approaching the media and the court to malign the AR's image,'' the PRO of AR said.
To ensure a free and fair trial, the individual was attached to a new unit - 21 AR - with effect from October 7.
''G D Haider Ali was practically out of service for almost four months. He was to report on duty on February 22 but he has failed to report till date and not given any intimation. Thus, he is absconding at the moment and all efforts to trace him have failed,'' the PRO said.
