All villages to be electrified by 2009: Guv Joshi

Dehra Dun, Mar 3 (UNI) The Government has set a target to electrify all villages in the State by 2009.

In his inaugural address on the opening day of the budget session here today, Governor B L Joshi informed the House that out of 15,661 villages in the State, 97 villages have been provided electricity.

The village electrification process would be carried out under the Rajiv Gandhi Vidyutikaran Yojana (RGGVY).

Governor Joshi announced that more than 25000 MW hydro electric water schemes were on the anvil. Out of this, at least 2,800 MW have become operational.

Besides this, the Government was working on the implementation of the Indo-Nepal Pancheshwar multipurpose project.

On the Special Industrial packages for small and large scale industries, the Governor apprised that till now, 976 industries were benefited out of the total of 3350.

Keeping in view the problem of water scarcity, the Governor informed that every constituency would be provided with at least 18 water pumps.
