2 Lankans held for attempting to send boat to LTTE HQ
Tiruchirapalli, Mar 3 (UNI) The Q-branch police today arresed two Sri Lankan nationals, allegedly supporters of LTTE, for attempting to send a mechanised boat to LTTE headquarters via Kerala coast.
Police sources said, the arrested were identified as V Premraj alias Raj alias Turaikutty staying at Amman Nagar here and another person Kumar alias Diesel Kumar, an inmate of the Sri Lankan Tamil special refugees camp at Rameswaram.
Acting on a tip-off, a police party intercepted, when they were moving around the Anna stadium area in the city in a suspicious manner, and arrested them.
Preliminary enquiries revealed that the arrested were having close links with LTTE's Sea-Tiger Wing Chief Susai and another one Raj alias Babu, and the duo had received an hawala amount of Rs 30 lakh from them recently.
The arrested had placed order for manufacturing a 72 ft long mechanised boat at a boat manufacturing unit at Munnampu in Kerala and paid Rs 25 lakh for the same. The arrested convinced the boat manufacturer that the vessel was for deep sea fishing. The boat was nearing completion stage. They were making all out efforts to send the boat to Jaffna through Diesel Kumar, an expert in boat rider.
Since there was tight vigil prevailing upon the movements of LLTE and its supportive ativities all over Tamil Nadu, they had chosen Kerala to meet their boat requirement, the arrested told police.
