'Looted weapons recovered from Orissa'

Hyderabad, Mar 2: Security forces have recovered 85 per cent of weapons that the naxals had looted after storming police stations in Koraput and Dharmapuri districts in Orissa last month, Central Reserve Police Force Director General S I S Ahmed said.

Talking to newspersons here today, he said four battalions of CRPF personnel were deployed in Orissa forests to combat naxal menace. Efforts were on to recover the remaining weapons. The CRPF personnel were combing the forests along with state police. Most of the sophisticated weapons were recovered from forests during combing operations, he said.

Claiming that the CRPF was successful in curbing naxal activities in the country, he said its 12 battalions were deployed in Chattisgarh, five each in Jharkhand and Bihar and four in Andhra Pradesh. While 47 battalions were deployed in Jammu and Kashmir, 47 batalions were sent to North Eastern States.
