Jammu, Mar 2 (UNI) The host Jammu and Kashmir Police today failed to move ahead as they lost to Haryana Police by three goals to nil and have to sit out of the tournament during the ongoing Third All India Police Martyrs Memorial Hockey Tournament being played at K K Hakku Astro-Turf Hockey Stadium here.

In form, Jammu and Kashmir Police could not impress the local audience as Haryanavis defeated them by three goals despite host getting eight penalty corners but none converted.

For Haryana Police Amit struck in the eighth minute of the first half followed by Sunil in the 15th minute (penalty corner) and Bijender in the 20th minute. Haryana Police have now joined rest of the eight quarterfinalists for the title clash.

Earlier in the morning matches, Punjab National Bank (PNB) XI defeated EME Jallandhar by a big margin of five goals to one to enter quarterfinals round.

The first goal from the winning side came in the 25th minute of the first half through Vikas Toppo on a pass from colleague near penalty area. Toppo missed no chance and netted a beautiful field goal to lead the first half.

Meanwhile in the second half of the game, Jatinder Saroha (penalty corner in 47th), Satvinder Singh (56th) and Satpal Singh (63rd) converted their turns.

However, Gurvinder Singh of EME Jallandhar converted a penalty corner for his side in the 68th minute.

In another match of the day, Punjab State Electrical Board (PSEB), Patiala defeated Rock Rovers Chandigarh 2-1. Hardev Singh and Navdeep Singh scored goals through penalty corner and field goal in the 15th and 26th minutes respectively.

The quarterfinals round would be beginning here tomorrow while the tournament would conclude on March 5.
