Kakinada, Mar 2: Andhra Pradesh Minister for Ports, Airports, Infrastructure Development and Investments Mopidevi Venkata Ramanarao, today said eight new (green field) airports would come up shortly in the State Talking to newspersons here, he said land acquisition and infrastructure required for new airports would be set up at Nellore, Tadepalligudem, Bobbili, Nizamabad, Kothagudem, Ramagundam and Warangal.
Mr Ramanarao said the Chief Minister Y S Rajasekhara Reddy, desires that every district should have an airport and the coastal districts a Port. The Minister said for each airport, 500 to 1,000 acres of land would be required and the estimated cost would be around Rs 60 crore. On the expansion of the existing airport at Rajahmundry, Mr Ramanarao said the land acquisition was nearing completion.
Similarly, the land acquisition process for second phase expansion of Gannavaram and Tirupati airports had commenced, he added.
He assured the Government was committed to protect the age-old anchorage port and would not allow diversion of cargo from the ancorage, as thousands of workers were dependent on it.
