Dhaka, Mar 2: Detained former Bangladesh Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina was not being given proper medical care, acting Awami League president Zillur Rahman has alleged.
He warned that if Ms Hasina and party general secretary Abdul Jalil were not provided due medical attention, the party would launch a countrywide agitation.''The government will need to shoulder all the responsibilities if anything happens to Ms Hasina and Mr Jalil and there is no doubt that the people will begin agitation in such a situation,'' Mr Rahman told New Age. He said the parliamentary elections should be held before any other elections as the interim government has no right to hold elections to local bodies.
Mr Rahman demanded that the date for the forthcoming parliamentary polls should be announced ''immediately'' to dispel public confusion over it.
He also called for immediate release of all the political detainees, which was ''essential to ensure free, fair and credible elections''.
