{image-soccer clash_01032008.jpg news.oneindia.in}Barasat, Mar 1: About five people were injured and properties of the Barasat stadium were damaged when a section of the soccer fans ran riot after their favourite team East Bengal lost to Mahindra United 0-2 in the IFA Shield today, police said.
The trouble sparked off as soon as the referee blew the wistle to end the play.Lathi wielding police soon tried to pacify the wild fans, who pelted stones, breaking the glass panes of the stadium office.Two fans were arrested for hooliganism.The clashes made the organizers, Indian Football Association, in deep trouble about the remaining plays in this district stadium.
Earlier, this stadium was discarded by the All India Football Federation for the Indian Premier league due to lack of proper infrastructure.
