Kozhikode, Mar 1 (UNI) All India Kisan Sabha (AIKS) Joint Secretary P Krishna Prasad today said there was no concrete measure in the Union Budget to ameliorate the sufferings of the farmers.
While welcoming the budget proposals to waive loans availed by farmers, Mr Prasad said there was no proposal to ensure adequate remunerative prices for their produce.
''The farming community will continue to suffer unless the Centre corrects the liberalisation policy, which hit hard the country's agriculture sector,'' Mr Prasad said.
Stating that the farmers in the district, which witnessed many suicides by debt-ridden peasants during the last couple of years, were jubiliant over the proposals, he said, however, it was yet to be worked out how many of them would be benefited by the loan waiver.
