Lucknow, Mar 1: Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Mayawati today announced creation of 1.08 lakh posts of sweepers, one each in the revenue village of the state.
''In order to ensure permanent cleanliness arrangements in villages, my government has taken this decision,'' the Chief Minister told the state assembly. She said cleanliness in the villages was found to be below par, resulting in sanitation and health problems. The creation of the new posts would not only ensure sanitation in villages but also provide new employment opportunities to many.
Making a scathing attack on the previous government, Ms Mayawati said unilke her government's resolve to provide maximum employment opportunities, the Mulayam Singh yadav government had not done anything.
She said it was the initiative of her government that the process of recruiting 80,000 teachers got underway. ''The recruitment of 6000 Urdu teachers, caught up in a legal tangle, was also being sought to be resolved as my government has made an appeal in this regard,'' she said. Leader of the Opposition Mulayam Singh Yadav, however, stated that the positive efforts of his government in this regard were part of the official records.
Later, Mr Yadav said his government was very much alive to the problems of the Dalists, backwards and minorities and, ''it was wrong on her part to paint black picture of my government, '' he added.
