Lift irrigation project in Nizamabad: CM
Kama Reddy, Andhra Pradesh, Mar 1 (UNI) The Andhra Pradesh Government will take up lift irrigation project on river Godavari to irrigate tracts of land in Nizamabad district, Chief Minister Y S Rajasekhara Reddy said today.
Speaking at a public meeting here, Dr Reddy said the project would be taken up at a cost of Rs 2,500 crore to irrigate 3.85 lakh acres in 23 mandals of Nizamabad district.
Stating that water would be channeled out to Gandhari and Lingampet mandals from the proposed Chevella-Pranahita lift irrigation project, he said all the wet lands in the district would be covered under 'Jalayagnam' programme in three years.
Earlier, the Chief Minister laid the foundation stone for Rs 140 crore irrigation project and inaugurated a sports stadium constructed at a cost of Rs one crore. He distributed loans to the families of surrendered naxals.
