Brain disease kills 13 infants in Mizoram
Aizawl, Mar 1: At least 13 infants, afflicted by a brain disease, have lost their lives in Saiha district of Mizoram during the past four months, health officials said here today. The disease, understood to be viral meningitis, has claimed 13 infants, most of them between 3-10 months old, since November.
''Many of the victims' families reside in remote areas and they could come for treatment only when it was too late. Therefore, the disease has claimed so many lives,'' Saiha Chief Medical Officer Dr R B Dey told UNI over the phone today. The CMO said a team of specialist doctors from Aizawl had rushed to the remote village of Zawngling near the Indo-Bangla border.
