Vigilance department books PHE engineer in Jammu

Jammu, Feb 29 (UNI) The Jammu and Kashmir state vigilance organisation today booked Assistant Engineer of PHE sub-division Javaid Ahmad for indulging in corrupt practices and misusing official position.

Official sources said here today that a case under the provisions of prevention of corruption act has been registered against Ahmad, who was found acquiring assets worth crores disproportionate to his visible sources of income.

''It was revealed that the official is in possession of two houses-- one under construction at Jammu and another at Kishtwar valued at Rs 50 lakhs,'' the sources told UNI after raiding his rental accommodation here in Gujjar Nagar area in the heart of the city.

''Mr Javaid Ahmad has acquired movable and immovable assets disproportionate to his known sources of income in the shape of a well furnished single storey residential house constructed on a plot of land measuring 1 Kanal and 6 Marlas, a huge double storey house still under construction on a plot of land measuring two Kanals in Jammu,'' they said.

''He has also spent a lot of money on improvements and furnishing his ancestral house at village Thakrai, in district Kishtwar,'' sources said.

The accused had also spent over Rs four lakhs on the education of his two children in a public school, besides paying a monthly rent of Rs 4000 in Jammu. A case under sections 5(2) of the IPC has been registered against him and the searches are in progress.
