Baobab trees are facing extinction in India
Lucknow, Feb 29, 2008 : The 'Kalpvriksha' or the mythological wish-fulfilling tree commonly known as Baobab tree is now almost extinct in India. Hindu myth has it that the churning of the sea by the demons and gods brought forth nine jewels; one of which was the now endangered specie, the 'Kalpvriksha'.
'Known as The Tree of Life' for its vitality and longevity the baobab is found largely in Africa and is one of the most useful trees in the world.
