New Delhi, Feb 29 (UNI) The Supreme Court today granted interim bail till July 14 to Yusuf Abdul Razak Memon, serving life sentence in the 1993 Mumbai serial bomb blasts case, on medical grounds as he is suffering from severe schizophrenia.

A bench comprising Chief Justice K G Balakrishnan and Justice R V Raveendran directed the release on interim bail after going through the medical report submitted by CBI.

Senior counsel Harish Salve appearing for the petitioner contented before the court that the petitioner is facing psychiatric problems for a long time and needed conducive and supportive atmosphere for his treatment which is not available in jail and can be made available only at home and also contended that the medical treatment required by the petitioner is also not available in jail.

Counsel for CBI, however, prayed to the court that the medical condition of the petitioner should be reviewed by this court after every three months.

The court also issued notices to the CBI on an application filed by another convict in the case Samir Hingora seeking permission to go to Saudi Arabia.

The petitioner has also sought directions to the CBI to release his passport.
