New Delhi, Feb 29 : Finance Minister P Chidambaram today
earmarked Rs 624 crore for the 2010 Commonwealth Games.
Presenting the annual Budget for 2008-09, he said the Games were only 947 days away and asked the authorities concerned to adhere to the strict time lines and quality standards.
Meanwhile, goverment said that around 40,000 hotel rooms would be requred to meet the requirement of the commonwelath Games, which is sheduled to at New Delhi. Giving this information in a written reply in Rajya Sabha , Union Tourism and Culture Minister Ambika Soni said her ministry was in touch with the various land owning agencies to identify additional hotel sites.
She said the agencies like DDA and the Ministries of Railways, Urban Development and Civil Aviation, and the state government of Uttar Pradesh have been advised to follow investor-friendly land policies and single window clearance for promoting hotel projects.
