Lahore, Feb 29: Pakistan Muslim League-Quaid (PML-Q) senior leader Chaudhry Pervaiz Elahi has said that President Pervez Musharraf was elected by his party for a term of five years, and it would support and protect him in the days to come. Elahi was addressing the media after attending a meeting of the PML's Punjab working committee, on Thursday at PML House.
The District Presidents, Presidents and Secretary-Generals of Youth Wing, Lawyers Wing, Kissan Wing, Labour Wing, Women Wing, Ulema Wing, Teachers Wing and other allied wings, also attended the meeting. Elahi also lauded President Musharraf for putting the country back on track after it had been declared a failed state. He said President Musharraf's wise policies and strategies had given a new life to the country. Elahi instructed party workers and leaders to reorganise the party at the district level. He said we should start a fresh membership drive to ensure that the party emerges stronger in the future. He also called on party workers who had lost the elections to address their shortcomings and to work harder.
Elahi said Mushahid Hussain Sayed's statement about Article 58(2) B was not the party's concern."Mushahid Hussain's stand regarding 58(2) B is not in line with the party's position," The News quoted Elahi, as saying. He said in case of move to impeach Musharraf, the PML-Q would stand by the President.
Talk of impeaching the President was not in line with good democratic traditions, he added. He hoped political parties would leave the politics of victimisation and work together for the country's progress.
Answering a question, he said the PML-Q would do its best to ensure that the new assembly complete its tenure and hoped the party's initiatives would be reciprocated. He added that it is the media and the political parties moral duty to closely monitor the Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) and the Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) to ensure that they fulfil their promises.
A unanimous resolution to support the leadership of Chaudhry Shujaat Hussain and Chaudhry Pervaiz Elahi was also passed during the meeting.
