NALCO bags EEPC Gold Trophy as top exporter

Bhubaneswar, Feb 29 (UNI) National Aluminium Company Limited (NALCO), India's leading producer and exporter of alumina and aluminium, has bagged the Engineering Export Promotion Council (EEPC), Eastern Region's Gold Trophy, as Top Exporter in the Large Enterprise Category.

Company Executive Director (Marketing) P K Parida received the award at a function in Kolkata yesterday from Council General, Consulate General of Federal Republic of Germany Guenter Wehrman in the presence of West Bengal Minister in-charge of Micro&Small Scale Enterprises, Textiles and Tourism Manabendra Mukherjee.

NALCO had played a pioneering role in the export of alumina and aluminium from India. Since inception, the company had been constantly increasing its exports and forex earnings.

During the financial year 2005-06, the company exported 8.62 lakh ton of alumina and 95,747 ton of aluminium, earning a foreign exchange of Rs 2307 crore.

During 2006-07, NALCO, first Indian company to be registered with London Metal Exchange and has ISO-9000-2001 and ISO-14001 Certifications for all its units, had achieved a record export earning of Rs.2586 crore.

NALCO, currently exporting to 30 countries, was implementing its second phase expansion programme at an investment of Rs 4092 crore, likely to be completed by this year end.

The Company had recently signed an MoU with the Indonesian Government to set up greenfield projects of a five lakh ton Smelter and a 1250 MW Captive Power Plant at an investment of 3.4 billion US dollar.
