Moily meets TN CM on Sethusamudram issue

Chennai, Feb 29: AICC General Secretary M Veerappa Moily today denied any difference of opinion between his party and the DMK on the Sethu Samudram Shipping Canal Project (SSCP) and attributed the delay in its implementation to the case pending in the Supreme Court.

Speaking to reporters after nearly 30-minute-long meeting with Tamil Nadu Chief Minister M Karunanidhi at his Gopalapuram Residence here, Mr Moily denied any difference of opinion between the two UPA Partners on the project.Recalling the sanction given to the SSCP by the former BJP-led NDA Government at the Centre, Mr Moily said even the alignment was decided by the previous dispensation.

''We are only continuing (work) their project. Now, the matter is before the Supreme Court. The Congress is not responsible for the delay.''We will abide by the court's decision. The affidavit will be filed before the Supreme Court,'' About the Congress' silence on the issue, Mr Moily said, ''We have to be silent. Otherwise, we will be hauled up by the Supreme Court for contempt,'' he added.
