Farmers throng 10 Janpath to thank Sonia for loan waiver
New Delhi, Feb 29 (UNI) The official residence of UPA chairperson Sonia Gandhi, 10, Janpath, today became the centre of celebrations as hundreds of farmers from Delhi and neighbouring states gathered there to express their gratitude for the agriculture debt relief package announced in the Budget.
The farmers danced to drum-beating and burst crackers and threw 'gulal' (colours) at each other.
Ms Gandhi, Prime Minister Manmohan Singh and Congress MP Rahul Gandhi came out and waved to them.
Mr Deepender Singh Hooda, Sajjan Jumar, Ram Prakash, all MPs and hordes of other leaders also drove into 10, Janpath on a tractor.
Security forces had a tough time controlling the enthusiastic farmers.
The farmers were also joined by porters in the celebrations as Railway Minister Lalu Prasad had announced in the rail budget that registered porters would be included as Class IV employees.
