Shikha Uberoi gets wild card for Bangalore Open

Bangalore, Feb 28 (UNI) Shikha Uberoi has been given wild card entry for the USD 600,000 WTA Tier II Bangalore Open to be played here from March three to nine.

A press release from Karnataka State Lawn Tennis Association(KSLTA) said here today that Shikha, an Indian settled in the US, is currently ranked 824 in the world. She had the career best ranking of 122 in singles on August 29, 2005.

Elated Shikha said ''I am very much thrilled and excited about playing at the Bangalore. I am really thankful to the organisers to have given me this opportunity. It surely means a lot to me. I look forward to playing some tough tennis at the tournament.'' She made her Grand Slam debut as world No 275 in US Open 2004.

Though she had not won any WTA event till date, Shikha had three ITF Women's Circuit singles titles to her name.

Teaming up with sister Neha Uberoi, she reached the finals of the WTA Tour Sunfeast Open at Kolkata in September 2005 where the sisters lost to Anastasia Myskina and Elena Likhovtseva, the release added.
